New PPGCS Requirements

As photographers, we need to continue to strive to do the very best for our clients. Whether if be in customer service, photographing the needs of the client or just making them feel very comfortable and special at that given time. Not only will it make their day, it will make yours too. I think I get as much satisfaction when a client thanks me for beautiful and creative work as the client does. Set your standards high and review your progress weekly. As a member of PPGCS, you're expected to set high standards. This leads me to my next thought, change is coming to PPGCS. In the next couple of months, the board will reveal new standards each member will be required to complete. These changes will be incorporated into the By-laws of PPGCS and will take affect in January 2006. If we are to be called the, "Professional Photographers' Guild of Colorado Springs" and affiliate of PPA National organization, then members will be excepted to achieve certain objectives and goals as members.

A message from the President

This has been a tremendous year for our members and for what the executive board has been able to accomplish in 2005. We've had great speakers talk to our members in areas like marketing and business, wedding, outdoor and wildlife photography, print critique and competition, just to name a few of the meetings that were held for our members last year.

Several of the members have now passed the PPA Certification test and are working on the final phase, by submitting their prints to PPA. Again showing their commitment to raising the bar in photographic excellence. PPGCS as a group has excelled in the state PPC Print Competition at the convention this year, bringing home many awards and ribbons including Photographer of the Year in the General division.

A special committee was formed to change and update the PPGCS Bylaws that will be voted on at the annual business meeting scheduled for Jan. 19th, 2006. This special committee spent many nights and long hours revising the Bylaws and I want to personally thank them for all their hard work. The Power Point Presentation was very well received at the December meeting. By hitting all the highlights of the Bylaws changes, it now makes it easy for our members to review the entire Bylaws document.

Lastly, I'd like to say thank you to all the board members who volunteered their time to help make Professional Photographers Guild of Colorado Springs a huge success this year. Without this help, we could not have accomplished what we did this year.

PPG's President,
Thomas Henn, PPA Certified, M.Photog. CR.

January 19th, 2006 meeting

The January meeting will take place at the View Point and will start at 7:00 PM as per the normal time. Because the annual meeting will be including the Bylaws vote, the board wants to allow some additional time for any questions that may come up. And because we will need to elect the new board and have the business meeting, the current executive board has opted to have a Potluck dinner at this meeting. We want this to be a relaxing evening and at the same time, get the business done. So here’s the plan. We are asking the members to bring for the Potluck dinner that will feed 6 to 8 in a form of either a salad, some sort of veggie, a main dish, or a dessert. You may want to talk to other members to make sure you're not bringing the same dish. The guild will supply the drink, paper plates, forks/knives and napkins. This should be a lot of fun.

Once we complete the elections, present the awards, and have the drawing, we will have a White Elephant gift exchange. This is always a great time for our members, so look for a gift that is between $15 and $20 and be prepared have fun. You see the wildest things at this gift exchange, not to mention different types of alcohol that is exchanged.

    HP LASERJET 2840mfp

It is perfect and has printed less than 200 pages. This is one of HP's hottest ticket items now and sells for $1,000. We have decided this is really overkill for what we need, and are going to go back to using our inkjet and scanner.

This is a network ready, full color laser printer/scanner/copier/fax. You can send scans as jpg or pdf to network folders or emails from the unit. You can also network fax. Very cool.
