April Meeting Reminder

A message from the President...

Wow! I can't believe that it is already April! We have had a great start to the year. The Guild really cleaned up at Rocky (see the March newsletter on the web site, www.PPGCS.com).

I just wanted to thank Tom & Pat for the great presentation at the last Guild meeting! Great Job! Not only on how to enhance your prints, but why it is done a certain way. Plus some of the "tried & true" methods to use. Also some great suggestions on suppliers and brands, etc. Maybe we can talk them into providing a suppliers list to print in the newsletter.

We are looking forward to Heather's program on Basic Posing and Lighting this month. I know Master Photographers that speak at conventions that will insist on going to classes on Basic Posing and Lighting, even if that is the only program they can attend. Shows to go you that no one can ever have enough education in posing and lighting! Check out the news letter for more of the programming for the rest of the year.

I am really excited that we are signing a contract to present a photographic gallery show at the Pike's Peak Center in July!!! This will be a great place to showcase your work and even sell some of your fine arts and /or scenic works. You will be hearing A LOT MORE about this in the future. PARTICIPATION IN THIS SHOW WILL BE LIMITED TO GUILD MEMBERS ONLY! That brings up another point. Did you forget to renew your membership? Well you have procrastinated so long now that it will only cost you $75 for the year, BUT you have missed some great programs.

Concepts To Make Artists More Skillful with Posing and Lighting

Good posing and lighting are the fundamentals of any portrait. Heather plans to discuss the basics-the how’s and why’s! Don’t miss a very easy to understand class on how to make your subject look their best in front of the camera. Bring your questions and plan to have some fun.

Well I could start from the beginning but let me tell you about the most special part of my life first before I talk about photography (the second most important thing in my life.) I live with my husband Randy and our two beautiful girls Corryn and Mollie. Mollie is the newest addition. We brought her home from the hospital on September 6th and feel very blessed as to how healthy not to mention adorable she is. We have called Colorado Springs our home for about 8 years. We were both stationed out here in the military and decided to stay. The mountains were too much to give up.

Now, as far as my history and future plans in the field of photography well....it all started when I was in Jr high and I received a good old Pentax K100 (which I still have and will probably never part with). I had the time of my life taking candid of kids at school for yearbook class. And then of course developing them in a very tiny closet we used as a darkroom. It was then that I found I had a love of photography and knew someday I'd be a professional. I would say my favorite style of photography is black and white portraiture. And even though he was known for is incredible landscapes Ansel Adams has always been a hero of mine.

A few years ago I was referred to Pat and Terry Moore and was told that they belonged to a local photography guild. So I took them up on the invite and attended my first meeting. Since then my ambitions to become a Professional Photographer have been put into overdrive. I have achieved my goal of becoming a Certified Professional Photographer and am working towards my Master’s. Working for the Moores at the Family studio has achieved a lifelong dream of mine. I have been introduced to the world of digital photography and have found it to be fascinating! This past year I have entered prints for the first time in regional and national print competitions and have been granted my first merits. It has been very rewarding. I am also proud to say that by entering my first print case I received a Judge's Choice award from Duncan McNab. I am very excited about where my career in photography is taking me and I must say I owe most of it to the Moores and this Guild.
