The 2004 PPGCS Board of
Directors
A message from the President
This will be a busy month for
many of our guild members, with the regional Rocky Mountain
Professional Photographer's Association coming to town on
March 12th to the 15th. If you still haven't registered,
it's still not to late to come to the largest event in Colorado
for 2004. For our new members, PPGCS helps in the convention
when it comes to town in many way. We help pick up the 6
judges and speakers from the Colo. Springs airport so they
dont have to look for some other transportation. We
also help in the Print Competition, in that we unload/reload
the print cases, present at Friday's competition, and help
hang the qualified prints for display. If you want to improve
your photographic skills, then be a part of this team because
in just a few days you will learn a LOT!! This will be your
last chance to have RMPPA at your back door until 2007.
One additional benefit the guild
members will get from this show is a judges critique (Master's
Corner) on Saturday morning at 11:30 AM. I would highly
recommend our members to have the judges review your prints
from the competition or one's your thinking about entering
or using for display. This is a great time to have your
work reviewed by the experts and you can get several ideas
from several of the judges to help improve your work.
PPGCS President,
Thomas J. Henn, PPA Certified, M.Photog

This Month's Meeting

If you have any interest in earning
top dollar for your most creative photographic talents,
then do not miss this program presented by Deanna Urs from
Parker, Colorado.
Deanna
picked up a camera for the first time in 1995 and in this
short time turned her new interest into a very successful
business style that she calls "The Boutique Photographer"
because she does
only
a few select portraits a year and 11-15 weddings annually.
She has applied the sales
and customer service techniques that made her successful
in the insurance industry to her photography practice and
has a $9,200. wedding average and clients who have invested
upwards of $18,000. on her children's portraits per year.
Her highest wedding sale last year was $38,000.
The credits she has amassed in
the last few years are amazing considering the short time
span involved in the photographic world. She created a series
of fine art photographs for the former Prime Minister of
Macedonia, worked with nationally syndicated TV personality
Tom Martino, photographed Linda Alvarado, one of the owners
of the Colorado Rockies. In addition, Deanna has scored
high marks for her images entered at WPPI and received the
Fuji Masterpiece award in 1999.
During
Deanna's program, we will see some of the images she has
created that are classic and timeless. Her goal for each
client is to create not just a photograph, but to create
an image that represents their personality and passions.
To create a piece of art that will evoke emotion, not only
in the client's eye, but in the viewers. Visit her web site
and you will agree that her images are truly pieces of art.
Deanna
will also share some of the techniques she has used since
her days in the insurance field that have helped her attract
and retain the clientele that is willing to pay for her
artistry.
All members will benefit to see
how Deanna has accomplished so much in so little time and
continues to create beautiful images in all areas of portraiture:
weddings, seniors, children and family portraits.

her work online, go to www.deannaursphotography.com

Member Profile
Coleen Swanson - Kemper Studios

Swansons images speak for
themselves. For her, photography is all about capturing
emotion and doing it with passion.
Coleen
Swanson started in photography over 14 years ago. It has
been on a part-time basis, full-time basis, in business
for herself and in business for others, and periods of burn
out. She just keeps coming back to it. Its her passion.
Coleen has been one of the top
award winning photographers in the Colorado Springs area
for over 10 years.
She
is a Certified Professional Photographer and has been awarded
the Service Fellowship Degree with the Professional Photographers
Guild of Colorado Springs. Ms. Swanson is a local leader/teacher
for the new innovative technique of virtually
painting photographs. She has titled them Art Prints.
Expanding her vision another step further, she has begun
using acrylics, watercolors and pastels to paint on the
canvases of these art prints. This process ads an enormous
amount of depth to the already worked images creating a
true piece of art for her clients home collections.
It is evident that neither time
nor place puts any restrictions on Coleens insatiable
desire to create emotionally stirring personal portraits.
Her passion continuously reinvents her vision and keeps
her approach to her art, fresh and innovative.
My own creative work comes
to me like a gift, pushing itself into my consciousness.

Get well, Terry
As some of the members already
know, Terry Moore of the Family Studio will go in to Memorial
Hospital on March 11th to have heart surgery to correct
problems Terry has today. The PPGCS wishes to extend our
thoughts to the Moore's during the surgery and recovery
time for Terry. He will be in very good hands and know he
will do well while we are at RMPPA. We will keep the membership
abreast of Terry's condition as soon as we know something.
