A message from the President

This months meeting is going to be a good one. Norm Rehme is coming down from Longmont, CO to share his knowledge about wedding photography. I know this will be a great meeting! Norm is a Master Photographer and has won some of the top honors at State and Regional print competition for his prints.

I'd like to take a minute and thank everyone involved with the John Fielder program. Many people came together to ensure the success of that March meeting. I'd like to express a special thanks to Mark Kirkland in acquiring the Bear Creek Nature Center of PPGCS and his efforts for a great program. We had a very good turn out and even pick up several new members that night.

One last note, I am requesting members who sent in their print cases to Heart of America (HOAPPA) for the regional contest and received a merit, to please email me with your score and title of the print. We want to recognize you for receiving 80 or higher at Regional. Remember, PPC members from Colorado could enter, but were not eligible for awards. This was allowed since Rocky Mountain (RMPPA) print competition isn't until Sept. and PPA National/International Print Competition is held in May.

THE SAND DUNES PHOTOGRAPHY JAMBOREE

Come join us for a weekend of Fun and Photography. This is an informal rendezvous for all interested photographers and their families at The Great Sand Dunes National Park, May 20 - 22. Individual photographers and the following organizations are invited: Peak Digital Imaging Society, Pikes Peak Camera Club, The Professional Photographers' Guild of CS and The Circle of Confusion. This could easily be the largest photography event in the history of Colorado! Here are some details for the up-coming field trip to San Dunes May 20 -22.

The "Home Base" will be at The Sand Dunes Pool and RV Park (click here for a map) very near to the Sand Dunes. This small resort is pretty cool. My son and I checked it out last weekend. It has pools and hot pools and even a diving board (uncommon these days). There is a snack bar with burgers and treats and a small RV style campground. The campground has 10 large pull trough and plenty of room for tents. Two fire rings and several BBQs, VolleyBall, Basket Ball, Tetherball etc. etc. Kids are welcome. This place is kept very clean and the water in the pools is crystal clear.

Although this will be the group meeting place I have arranged for lodging at The Fort Garland Motor Inn in FortGarland for those who do not wish to camp. http://www.garlandmotorinn.com

We will receive last year's off-season rates here and it is a very clean, quiet and comfortable place to stay. It's about 25 minutes from the dunes. Just mention the Photography Jamboree when making reservations.

Wedding Portraiture: Thinking Outside of the Soft Box

Norman Rehme, M. Photog. CPP, recognizes after 35 years of photography that weddings require images in four categories: documentary, family, storytelling, and portraiture.

No matter how you slice it, what name you attach to it for marketing, or the background of the bride, to do weddings successfully you must capture photographs in all those groups. Thinking outside of your soft box permits you to set your style, enjoy your craft better, and create memories that bride's appreciate.

Norman is a Master Photographer who has numerous and multiple awards for his work including Fuji Masterpiece Awards, Kodak Gallery Award, Loan Prints, Colorado Photographer of the Year, and now Photographer of the Year-Gold Level. He received the highest scoring print at Rocky Mountain Professional Photographers a few years ago with a wedding print-a category often shunned in competition.

Norman's program includes a full histogram of wedding elements that both the novice and experienced photographer will be able to appreciate.

Membership and Advertising

This is the official publication of the Professional Photographers' Guild of Colorado Springs, Colorado (PPGCS). It is published monthly for members and others for information on industry matters, personal achievements, and news of this and other associations. Acceptance of advertising, or the publishing of press releases does not imply endorsement of any product or service by the association, publisher, or editor. Permission is granted to similar publications of the photographic industry to reprint contents of this publication, provided that the author and Professional Photographers' Guild of Colorado Springs Newsletter is credited as source.

Guild Membership: Membership dues are $100 per year and include the monthly meetings, participation in the print competitions, free advertising, and newsletter. For membership inquires, contact Allison Earnest at 573-7880.

Guests: Guests may attend one meeting without charge. Thereafter, there is a $20 per meeting charge. Special meetings may cost more. Non Members may submit advertising for $5 per month.

Advertising Rates: A full page ad costs $50 per month or $480 per year, paid in advance. A half-page ad is $40 per month or $360 per year and a quarter page ad is $30 per month or $240 per month. Those wishing to advertise should contact the editor, Allison Earnest.
