A message from the President

Wow, what good things are happening for the first half of the year! The best is yet to come…. We have several events happening very soon. First is the PPColorado Pro-Share meeting in south Denver on Sunday July 9th. Refer to www.PPColorado.com for registration information. You have your choice of several top speakers. You get to pick your top 2 topics and speakers. Next, is our very own PPGCS meeting on July 20th, that is an extended meeting. The guest speaker is Kent Shirley, and the topic is intermediate to advanced Photoshop tips and tricks. I met Kent at the Imaging Workshops of Colorado, and he is awesome. Just check out his bio for yourself. This will be a longer meeting than usual, starting at 4pm until 6pm, a dinner break, and then resuming from 7pm until 9pm. Finally, we have our annual picnic on Sunday July 30th. This is geared for family fun. We will picnic at the home of Wilson Hitchings. Hot Dogs, Burgers and Sodas will be provided. Please bring your favorite summer dish to share. You may also bring stronger libations for personal consumption. (Bring your own beer!) Our meetings are not slowing down as summer progresses. The August meeting will be a panel from SCORE. Watch you newsletters from more details.

Looking forward to seeing you all a lot this month. Keep busy!

PPGCS President,
Pat Moore, Cr.Photog., PPA Certified

Do you notice how restaurants always go for that add on sale by offering us desert? In this program you'll learn how to create multi image collages, story boards and special effects that can increase profits. The great news is, using Photoshop actions, these products can be created in just a few seconds.

Kent has taught Photoshop for several years at PPA Affiliate Schools and consistently receives outstanding critiques from his students and peers. He has won several Fuji Masterpiece and Kodak Gallery Awards. He also received the PPA Electronic Imager of the Year Award. Kent currently serves on the Board of Directors of Professional Photographers of Oklahoma and the Board of Trustees of The Professional Photographers of Oklahoma School. He holds a Craftsman Degree from Professional Photographers of America and has given programs at several state and regional conventions.

PPGCS Members in the News

Elaine McDonald’s images of Ireland will be on exhibit
at the BAC Gallery in Manitou Springs Aug. 4 - Sept. 2

An exhibit of 20-30 photographs I took in Ireland last year will be on display from Aug. 4 - Sept. 2 in the Spencer Hall Gallery at the Business of Art Center in Manitou Springs. I'm busy right now working on creating some interesting collages that will be included in this exhibit.

This will be a joint exhibit with another photographer whose photographs of Kenya will be displayed.

Please note that Spencer Hall is not in the main BAC building at 513 Manitou Ave., but is right next door at 515 Manitou Ave. in the "Venue 515" building -- some of you may have attended Manitou Art Theater performances in Spencer Hall.

The exhibits in Spencer Hall are open to the public for viewing from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, except when the facility is in use for a private function.

I haven't decided yet if I will have a "meet the artist" reception or not. I'll let you know about that when I send another reminder closer to the time. Meanwhile, I just wanted to let you know that the dates of this exhibit have been set. This will be my first big exhibit at a gallery, so I'm very excited about it!

July 30 Guild Annual Picnic
Directions and Details

Hi all~ The annual picnic will start noonish to 5pm. BYOB (alcohol if desired) and a side dish to share... Dogs, Burgers and soda provided.... Children and family members welcome, but the pets must stay at home. There is no room for yard games so we'll make our own fun. Come enjoy!

Here are the directions and parking instructions to my house for the picnic. You may combine whatever portion of the directions you like if that makes it simpler.

PARKING INSTRUCTIONS

University Park, where my house is, has strict rules about fire lanes and parking. One side of the street is no parking due to the fire lane, so look for signs indicating which side you can park on. You could get ticketed if you park on the wrong side of the street. My house is on a private drive at the end of the cul-de-sac, but you cannot park in the drive or at my house since I have neighbors that share the private drive and need to get in and out of their homes. Do not block any driveway and leave plenty of turning room for people to get in and out of their homes. Only those with mobility issues can park at my house, and we only have room for two cars so please park on Stonehill Road and walk up to the house. Car pooling may be a good idea for some of you to reduce the number of cars on the street and reduce the distance you will have to walk if everyone drives a separate car. Thanks!

MISC

I have only a small front yard, no back yard and only a deck for everyone so please NO PETS. The picnic will either be spent on the rear deck or indoors, sorry. Bringing a folding chair for you would be a good idea as I don't have enough chairs for everyone in the guild.

DIRECTIONS

From south of Colorado Springs:

Take I-25 north, and once in Colorado Springs, exit from the right of the highway at the Garden of the Gods exit. Go right at the off-ramp and you'll be on Garden of the Gods Road. This road will turn into Austin Bluffs Parkway once you cross Nevada Blvd.

Stay on Austin Bluffs Parkway up the hill and pass UCCS campus on your left. At the bottom of the hill is Union Blvd., turn left (towards Academy Blvd.). Stay in the left lane on Union Blvd. and at the second break in the median, turn left on to Collegiate. Follow Collegiate up the hill until it dead-ends on Rockhurst Blvd. Turn left on to Rockhurst Blvd. and follow Rockhurst up the hill to the last right-hand turn which is Stonehill Road. Follow Stonehill Road all the way to the bottom of the hill to the cul-de-sac and hop the curb up the asphalt road to the only house on the right. The office is located in a brown stucco house with a red tile roof.

From north of Colorado Springs:

Take I-25 south, and once in Colorado Springs, exit from the left of the highway at the Nevada Blvd. exit. Nevada Blvd. is the exit just after the Woodmen exit, so when you see the Woodmen exit get in the left lane of I-25 and take Nevada. You'll pass under the north-bound interstate and be heading towards Nevada Blvd and Austin Bluffs Parkway. The first traffic light on Nevada Blvd. is Austin Bluffs Parkway, turn left.
