A message from the President

I've just returned from the PPA Convention in Las Vegas and was it ever a great convention!! If you're not a PPA member, then your missing a lot by not being part of this organization. While at the convention, I attended the board meeting and now have a much better understanding of how the certification now works. They have made changes over the last couple of years and more changes are in the works. PPA is striving to make its members better for their client and customers. At this years PPA convention award ceremony, two guild members received PPA Degrees. Tammy Henn-Campbell received her Master of Photographic Degree and I received my 2nd degree, the Craftsman Degree. It really does pay to belong to photographic organizations like the guild, because you will benefit many times over in years to come.

PPG's President,
Thomas J. Henn, PPA Certified, M.Photog

This Month's Meeting

Colorado Springs photographer, David O. Bailey is a nationally recognized and award winning photographer and writer living in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He specializes in Fine Art Landscapes, Travel Stock Images, Aerial Photography, Concerts, Sports and Commercial work. Photography was not David=s first career and in fact is his third career, after serving in the US Marine Corps as an Infantry Officer for 8 years he resigned his commission as a Major and accepted an appointment as a Special Agent in the FBI. David retired from the FBI in 2000 after 21 years.

In 1990, David began his professional photography career after getting many requests from friends to purchase his landscape and Rock & Roll Concert images. Since 1990, David’s images have been published in several books, magazines, calendars, post cards, newspapers and collected by private collectors. David is a Certified member of the Professional Photographers of America and will receive the prestigious Master Photographer degree from PPA at their annual convention in New Orleans in January 2005. David is also a member of the American Society of Media Photographers and the Professional Photographers of Colorado.   David publishes a yearly calendar titled “Pikes Peak Country” featuring the scenery of the Pikes Peak and Colorado Springs area. He has also done two exclusive calendars of his photographs for calendar companies and both have won National awards. David’s Fine Art Landscape subjects tend to be of the American Southwest and cover the mountains, wildflowers, Indian Ruins, Red Rock Canyons & Arches of Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Arizona. The Professional Photographers of America has recognized thirteen of his images as National Merit Print winners and two as Loan Collection winners. Travel photography is an area that he spends a lot of time on and is one of the areas that is published the most. He travels throughout the United States and Europe photographing beautiful travel destinations and has photographed many of the great Castles and Chateaus of Europe. Concert Photography is one of his true passions and when he was just 17, photographed one of the last live concerts of the Beatles in 1966. He has photographed many of the Legends of Rock & Roll, the Blues and Country Music including: Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, BB King, Aerosmith, Tina Turner and Celine Dion.

David will present several small slide presentations including presentations on The Beatles, Travel Stock Photography, Concert Photography and Landscape photography. David utilizes both film and digital cameras in his business. If you have areas of photography that you would like to have David address during the meeting or any particular area of his work you have questions on, you may send him advance questions or suggestions at DBImages@aol.com. Member Profile

Allison Earnest

Allison has been a professional photographer and custom printer for 21 years. Though she has lived many places around the world, she grew up in California and fell in love with photography at a very young age. Allison took a black & white photo class in 9th grade and found her love for the lab. Though her passion is working in the lab making photographs, she loves to shoot as well.

Allison has been very fortunate to have worked as a photographer/ lab technician in almost all her former jobs. She has been a commercial/industrial photographer and lab tech for Boeing International, NASA, and the US Army. She also worked at Centinella Medical Center in California as a Medical Photographer and a photographer for the Lakers, Kings, and Dodgers. Many of her photographs have appeared in magazines, publications and journals.

Allison holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Management from University of Maryland and has attended many photographic classes to keep up her skills. She has worked for Wolf Camera for close to 6 six years. Three years ago Allison became one of the first Master Lab Technician for Wolf Camera. She is a certified Master Technician through the Society of Photographic Engineers. She strongly beleives any and all education is essential to growth.

Though Allison is essentially self- taught, she credits many famous and not so famous, but equally talented people who have mentored her throughout the years. For example while living in Lousiana, Allison taught photography and color printing at A.W Whooley’s School of Photography. She was drawn to the ol’ timey owner named Al, a well know Life Photographer. Al would preach to Allison about developing a style that reflects you as an artist, stay true to your vision and for gods sake put people in your photographs. She started incorporating people in her images and has never looked back.

Perhaps the most inspirational moment happened seven years ago while working in Los Angeles. Allison had the opportunity to assist a couple fashion photographers for magazine shoots and knew this was the type of style she had been developing. She liked the big production aspect of shooting for magazines. Her goal is to shoot for major magazines such as Vogue and Elle.
