LEARNING ABOUT PRINT COMPETITION

March 12, 2019

Every year PPA hosts the International Print Competition-where literally thousands of images from around the world are entered into a competition. The images are judged not against one another as much as against the creator--against a set of 12 elements. You can read more about International Print Competition (or IPC) here.

Our Guild--the Professional Photographers of Colorado Springs produces a high amount of IPC award winners including Larry Adkins who was up for a Grand Imaging Award (GIA)in the Landscape Division for 2019. The GIA is the top 10 awardees in each category. PPGCS  had 4 of the top 10 images in landscape for GIA and the top winner for the Children's Portrait category.

Larry Adkins, M. Photog, taught a Print Competition College a few weeks ago for Guild members wanting to learn how to take their images to the next level. He will be teaching again in the Denver area March 23. Providing attendees with insight into the International Print Competition and methods on improving images for competitions, he taught the 12 Elements of a Merit Image. Not only did attendees learn what is needed to compete, but they were also given a pathway to graduate the Print Competition College, attendees must enter into District Print Competition and the International Print Competition.

The March 21st meeting will show members how a panel of judges looks at images. Each member is allowed 4 images to enter for a critique during the meeting at no cost. Non members can also enter. Go here for more information.
