About the Event
Color photography allows us to record a scene more as it was when we experienced it. Black and white allows for us to explore the scene, enjoy the lines, textures, shapes, and form. Black and white also invites us to feel, to experience the emotions within the story, and to engage in the depth of the image.
Jeff will teach us ways to see differently for black and white photography. In black and white landscape photography, the golden hour is no longer the golden rule. The soft warm colors and delicate light will just be a flat gray image once converted to black and white. To create the dramatic images, we all aspire to, e.g. Ansel Adams, John Sexton, Henri Cartier-Bresson, to name a few icons, we must look for more dramatic light, direction and landscape.
Jeff suggests that light direction, intensity and how it can sculpt a scene are more primary factors in selecting a scene to consider for black and white. Mid-morning and mid- afternoon should now be part of your photography creation time.
So, join Jeff for an in depth look at how he creates his award-winning black and white photography.
“You don’t shoot black and white because it is more “artsy”. You shoot black and white because it better communicates how you feel.” ~ Eric Kim
