About the Event
Edward S. Curtis photographed thousands of Native Peoples in the early 1900's while producing a 20-volume publication titled, "The North American Indian." Curtis' great-grandson, John Graybill, along with his wife Coleen, are continuing that legacy of giving voice to Native Americans through their current project.
The Decendants Project is an effort to find, interview, and photograph living relatives of the Indigenous Peoples photographed by Edward Curtis, to have them tell their story of being native in the 21st century. Using camera equipment and techniques much like his "great-gramps" did 100 years ago, John and Coleen will share some of these photographs and powerful stories - messages of resistance, survival, and power.
